This silk plush top hat was made by Scott & Co. of Old Bond Street, Piccadilly for William C. Bullitt (WCB) who was US Ambassador to Russia from 1933 - 1936 and Ambassador to France from 1936 - 1940.
This Knox Voyageur conjures images of Ingrid Bergman in the 1943 film
Casablanca, even the name of the hat, Voyageur, is evocative of travel
to exotic places.
A fine Victorian era woven antique shawl that probably originates from
England (Norwich) or Scotland. Twill stripes are in bright primary
colors of red, blue, yellow and green with the addition of black and
white. The effect is dazzling!
Measuring 70" square this shawl is of the type referred to in its
native India as "jamawar" or gown piece which refers to the striped
weave with no borders present. Found in a dress box with the
inscription "Cousin Clara's India Shawl".
Dating to the 1920s this printed silk shawl would have been an
alternative to the heavy embroidered shawls. Just as beautiful and
textural because of the tone on tone pattern of the silk jacquard on
which the shawl is printed.
A stunning hand-embroidered Canton shawl on rare yellow silk ground.
The embroidery is worked by hand in silk thread depicting peacocks,
pagodas, swans, animals, birds, butterflies and flowers.
Printed on an apple green background is a spray of white cosmos with
lacy green leaves. The spray fills the hanky in a pleasing composition.
Delicate floral swags encircle clusters of roses and a central ribbon
bow in shades of red and pink with green leaves and blue forget me nots
as accents.
This vintage handkerchief features clusters of white gardenia's on a
light grass green background. The outer border has a white fish scale
or petal design, each with a small white forget me not type flower.
Featuring bouquets of lilies, daisies, irises and roses surrounding a
central medallion with yellow background. The border is scalloped with
paisley pattern that echoes the scalloping at the edge.
